Welcome to my 100th blog post!
I’m so excited to celebrate this big milestone of 100 blog posts written all about my love for abstract art. Thank you for joining me on this creative adventure.
Today, I want to look back at my blogging journey so far and share some thoughts about abstract art.
A Free Gift to Celebrate
Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a collection of artwork from my creative pursuits. Recently, I rediscovered some delightfully whimsical vector illustrations that I originally made for my children using CorelDraw software way back in the 1990s.
These vintage pieces bring back such nostalgia and joy.
As a token of appreciation to all of you wonderful people who visit my website and read my blog posts, I decided to repurpose those playful vector artworks into a fun new ‘Freebies‘ section on my site.
There, you can download the images to use as free digital wallpapers for your smartphones!
I love the idea of those cheerful, hand-drawn characters and scenes from decades ago getting new life and bringing smiles to people’s faces every time they glance at their phones.
It’s my small way of thanking you for supporting my abstract art journey.
My First Blog Post
I started this blog to share my passion for abstract art and connect with others who love it too. My very first blog post was called “What Do People See in Abstract Painting?“
I’ve always wondered what different people see and feel when they look at abstract art pieces.
Over time, my blog posts have grown and now people from all around the world read them and share their thoughts.
I’m so grateful for your support!
It’s amazing how art can bring people together across many differences. Art is a universal language of feelings and emotions we all share.

My Abstract Art Journey
I fell in love with abstract art because of the total freedom and creativity it allows. With abstract art, you can express any emotion or idea without limits or rules.
There are no boundaries whether you’re the artist creating it or the viewer looking at it.
It’s your interpretation and that’s what matters most.
Abstract art taps into something deeper than just visual beauty. It stirs up our feelings and emotions in a special way that’s hard to put into words.
My style of abstract art has changed over the years as I’ve experimented with different techniques like layering colours and textures. But there’s no right or wrong way to create abstract art – it’s all about expressing yourself.
It’s hard to pick a single favourite piece because each abstract painting tells its own unique story and captures a part of my life’s journey.
You can see some of my abstract paintings available for sale on my website under “Abstract Acrylic Paintings” and “Abstract Oil Paintings“.
Exploring Abstract Painting Techniques
In my blog posts, I’ve explored many different abstract painting techniques like splattering paint, colour blocking and layering.
My favourite is definitely the layering technique.
It’s like writing a story, with each new layer adding more to the narrative. Slowly but surely, you can see the story developing right before your eyes through the layers of colour and texture.
It’s an incredibly satisfying creative process that words can hardly describe.
Throughout my blog posts, I’ve tried to explain this amazing journey of abstract art creation. I hope reading them brings you some joy, inspiration and motivation to express yourself creatively.
I also discuss the actual materials I use to make my abstract art, like canvases, wood panels and acid-free papers.
Each surface has its own unique qualities that are expressed in the final painting. My favourite is creating large-scale abstract paintings on big 5×7 foot canvases (though my studio space is pretty limited).

Themes and Topics of My Blog Posts
Over these 100 blog posts, I’ve explored themes like emotion, nature, famous abstract artists and their own journeys into the abstract art world. Each new theme offers a fresh perspective.
Readers have especially enjoyed my blog posts about colour theory, expressing emotions through art (as a form of therapy) and how viewing abstract art can reduce stress and create a calming atmosphere in your living spaces.
Basically, turn off the TV, put on some music, grab a warm drink and spend some quiet time looking at an abstract painting you love.
Let the artwork draw you in and follow where your emotions lead.
It’s such a simple but powerful way to unwind!
I absolutely love hearing from all of you readers. Your comments, thoughts and experiences inspire me to keep writing and creating.
The whole purpose of sharing my blog posts is to facilitate an open discussion about creativity, self-expression and the importance of art.
Researching Blog Posts
Writing high-quality blog posts takes me quite a while – usually days or even weeks for a single post.
A big portion of that time is spent thoroughly researching and reading about the topic before I start writing.
When I’m not painting, you can usually find me reading books, articles and publications about art history, famous artists, the role of creativity in society, philosophical interpretations of art and more.
Some of the top resources I rely on include:

Advice for Aspiring Artists
As someone who has spent years exploring and blogging about abstract art, I’ve learned a lot along the way. For any aspiring artists out there, here is my advice:
- First and foremost, don’t be afraid to experiment and make mistakes. Abstract art is all about the creative process rather than making something look technically “correct.” Embrace going outside the lines and seeing what happens when you try new brushstrokes, colour combinations or techniques. That’s where the magic happens!
- Secondly, look within yourself for inspiration rather than trying to imitate others’ styles. Abstract art is an incredibly personal form of expression. Let your emotions, life experiences and inner world guide your paintbrush. That’s what will make your abstract pieces uniquely yours.
- Don’t get too hung up on wanting to create a “masterpiece” with your first few abstract paintings. It takes time to develop your own abstract style. Be patient with yourself, observe how different techniques make you feel and let your skills build gradually. The journey is just as meaningful as the destination in abstract art.
- Finally, don’t neglect to study the fundamentals like colour theory, brushwork and how different paint mediums behave. Having a strong technical foundation will allow you to then break the “rules” in more interesting ways as an abstract artist.

Looking to the Future
After 100 incredible blog posts, I’m just getting started! I have so much more abstract artistry and knowledge to share with all of you.
Future Vision
I’m really excited about the future directions I want to take this blog in. Get ready, because I plan on exploring all kinds of new themes, techniques and creative projects with my abstract art.
One area I’m particularly fascinated by is studying original cultural art styles from around the world.
I’ve always been intrigued by the ancient Chinese and Japanese ink-wash painting style of “Sumi-e.” The bold simplicity and control of the brushwork are so beautiful.
I’m also captivated by the dreaming stories and dot painting techniques of Australian Aboriginal artists.
And then there are the vibrant colours and patterns found in traditional African art, the intricate geometries of Islamic art and the deep spirituality infused in the indigenous art of the Americas.
I want to learn more about the inspiring visions and processes behind all these amazing cultural art styles.
Who knows – maybe I can adopt some of the elements or philosophies into new abstract painting methods of my own.
I’m excited to take you all on that exploratory journey.
Upcoming Projects
One project already in the works that I can’t wait to share is a series on mixed-media abstract techniques.
By combining different textures, materials and methods all in one artwork, you can create such unique and dynamic abstract pieces. Collaging, stamping, dripping, you name it – I’m going to explore how to blend it all together in new experimental ways.
I’m also starting to go deeper into the concept of abstract-themed collections. Instead of standalone abstract paintings, I’ve begun creating a series of 3-4 artworks unified by a common theme, premise or storyline.
Each individual piece is part of a larger narrative that you can only fully appreciate when the collection is viewed all together side-by-side.
To give you a sneak peek, I’ve included some initial pieces from a new themed abstract collection I started working on in 2024. As you can see, each one starts to hint at a bigger unfolding story.
I can’t wait to finish this full collection and reveal the deeper meaning behind it all.
Ongoing Mission
No matter what creative endeavours I pursue, my overall driving mission remains the same. I want to keep cultivating this online and in-person community as a space for exchanging abstract art perspectives and ideas.
This is just the start of an ever-growing, ever-evolving dialogue around abstract expression.
I hope to continually welcome more diverse creators, artists, thinkers and appreciators of abstract work into this space.
The conversation has only just begun!
I’m honoured to learn from all of your unique experiences and viewpoints as we take this artistic journey together into the future.
Let me know what you think about any of those upcoming plans! I’m always eager to hear your thoughts, reactions and suggestions for great abstract art topics to explore next.
