Moments Like These: Abstract Art Series

A new series of paintings and reflections. On grace, connection, and moments that change everything.

If you have been following the paintings and blog posts on this site, you will know that this is not where the story began. It began with Missing Puzzle Piece, a series of four paintings exploring what a missing puzzle piece can teach us about psychology, about searching and about life itself.

Then Between Two Points, a series of five paintings and a reflection on the universal thresholds we all live between. Time, connection, distance, memory, the arc from youth to age.

And it continued with Oblivious and Untold, five paintings drawn from life experiences, tracing the long interior journey from a sharp and sudden unexpected event all the way to acceptance. Those three series were honest and sometimes heavy. They asked difficult questions. They sat with things that do not resolve easily.

This series is a different phase of the same story. The same voice. The same honest look at human experiences. But from a completely different place, lighter on its feet, warmer in its palette, younger in its spirit. Because a story that only carries weight is not a complete story. And a life that only moves through shadow, without ever stepping into the light, is not a complete life either.

Moments Like These is about the light.

You know the moments I mean. They are not the grand ones, not planned celebrations, the anticipated milestones, the occasions the world prepares you for. They are the unexpected ones. The ones that arrive without warning, without ceremony, without asking your permission.

A shift in perception so sudden and complete that the person standing in front of you, someone you have seen many times before, becomes real to you in an entirely new way. A feeling of such complete contentment in the company of another soul that nothing is missing, nothing needs to be said, nothing needs to be different from exactly what it is.

A moment when life takes a turn you did not choose and you understand, later, sometimes much later, that something larger than yourself was at work.

These are not small moments, even though they often look like nothing from the outside. They are the moments that leave you different. The ones that open something in you that was previously closed. The ones that, when you look back across the full landscape of a life, stand out for their drama but for their quiet, irreversible truth.

The abstract paintings in this series are made differently from the previous three. Where Missing Puzzle Piece, Between Two Points and Oblivious and Untold were built through careful layering, structured, considered, each mark placed with deliberate intention, these paintings are free. Spontaneous. Made with the energy and instinct of a younger soul unburdened by caution. The marks go where they want to go. The paint lands where it lands. The canvas is surprised by what arrives on it, and so, sometimes, am I.

The palette has changed too. White, enormous and open, full of possibility. Pink, warm, tender, the colour of the heart unguarded. Gold, radiant and joyful, the energy of a soul fully alive. These are the colours of Moments Like These. Not the grey and blue-grey and black of the earlier series. Something brighter, something that faces the light rather than sitting with the dark.

As the image above shows, I used just four colours to create this series: lots of white; pink ( mixed from white and red); a few touches of gold; and a hint of blue.

This series has three paintings rather than four or five. Because these are moments, not journey, not long roads, not sustained states of being. They arrive in a flash and change everything in that flash. Three paintings. Three reflections. Complete in their brevity, the way the moments themselves are complete.

As with everything else in this body of work, these paintings do not tell you what to see or what to feel. They offer a surface, an atmosphere, an invitation. What you bring to them is as much a part of what they are as anything I put there. Your moments like these are as real and as valid as mine. Perhaps more so, because they belong entirely to you.

So come with an open heart. Leave behind the weight of the previous three series; it has been carried, it has been set down, and it has done its work. This is something else. This is what comes after the long road. This is the open field. Step into it.
