Immaculate Dream

This Abstract Painting
It’s hard to describe the beauty of oil painting. It’s a medium that is alive and communicates with the artist if you can understand its vocabulary, characteristics and properties. Once you figure it out, it works and responds to your brushstrokes or palette knife like no other medium.
Oil paints need to breathe and that’s why you don’t cover it behind a glass screen. In a funny sort of way, it’s alive. I spent years working with oil paints and it has been a very long learning process.
This painting can demonstrate the flexibility of oil paints and how it allows the artist to manipulate its properties to the nth degree.
Beautiful blending, mixing and textures that are hard to match by any other medium. Oil paints work very well with other particular mediums to discover more about oil paints’ flexibility.
In this painting, I wanted to use as many colours as I could possibly to create this busy atmosphere. I used titanium white (a favourite colour), yellow ochre (another favourite colour), magenta, phthalo blue, raw sienna, alizarin crimson and, of course, black (my third favourite colour).
That was a big challenge working with so many colours and bringing all their energies to establish balance and harmony. Not an easy task, but I always strive for a challenge.
Working with you demands time and patience, as I said before. I’m not in total control of the paint until you appreciate its properties. You can’t just build layers of paint immediately, the paint demands that you take your time to appreciate it and appreciate its beauty.
The first layer must be lean (thin) and allow it to dry before applying another layer on top. You also need to thin the paint with other medium. So, as you can appreciate, it insists that you follow the style and method of building your creation.
So you have to work with it and appreciate its beauty in the making. It is ALIVE.
The result is unmatched.
