This Abstract Painting
I used several acrylic paints to make this contemporary abstract painting. It took many layers of paint before we started to communicate the feelings of the different colours, forms, lines and compositions.
I have a great interest in understanding the psychology of colours and their true effect on our emotions. Each colour has certain meanings and can affect our moods in various ways, but not necessarily in the same way all the time. I believe too much of the same colour could have a different effect on our emotions and feelings.
It is the overall combination of colours that interests me most as I think this is when we begin to communicate in a different language that is more of an emotional and feelings language.
I spent many hours looking at each element of the painting through the various stages of the process of creating it. It feels like learning to understand a new language that doesn’t use words, but understanding that language is influenced by how we feel and react is subject to personal, cultural and situational factors.
And that’s what I find so amazing about abstract painting as it touches on a fundamental, primitive part of our lives – the part of that experiences life without words, beyond language, transcending definitions.
