This Abstract Painting
Mark making painting technique is commonly used in abstract oil painting to create different lines, shapes and textures. The technique is also used in other art genres as it helps many artists to leave or develop their own creative signature.
Mark making techniques in art are an integral element of abstract painting process. The technique can be associated with and represent simplicity, freedom and tranquillity.
Many artists begin their creative process on a blank canvas with mark making. It is a process that many artists find necessary to initiate a painting.
Mark making in oil is a great experience that brings tremendous joy to the creative process. All you need is to just let go and trust yourself in expressing yourself.
In this painting, I used different values of light and slightly darker shades of a few colours. Pinks, browns and yellows dominate the painting. Adding a few lines of black oil paint brings all the elements of the painting together nicely.
The shades of pink bring a warm calmness to the vibrant yellow and between the two colours, they create a balanced harmony to the overall painting. Let’s remember pink is the colour of romance and fun – a soft warm colour.
The colour brown adds a great sense of security, trust, reliability, down-to-earth and sophistication. Light brown in Feng Shui represents earth.
Colours, shapes and lines have an immense effect on our moods and can evoke different emotions. Colours talk to us all the time, but sometimes we do not notice what they are telling us. Take your time and find out the story.
As always, I paint several layers before I can begin to see the painting. It is an amazing process to see the creation as it slowly evolves. It is at this time that we begin to communicate and the rest of the process continues to develop step by step right in front of me.
The creative process of abstract painting is more about expressing your true self and discovering endless possibilities of finding joy and satisfaction throughout the entire process of painting. There is no right or wrong, there is no good or bad. There is only you.
